Competition
The Oligopoly market structure that Woolworths lies within is home to high amounts of competition, and this is a big factor in why we chose this particular market structure. This competition has arisen within the industry due to the existence of the two dominant firms, Woolworths and Coles, and their endless battles to become the more powerful firm. This competition has led to high barriers of entry, huge amounts of money put out into advertising campaigns, implications involving price-cutting etc., and the emergence of dirty work being done by both firms. These issues and aspects that regard to competition between the two firms are a major reason of why we chose an Oligopoly market structure, particularly this one.
